I fear audiences won't like me anymore, says Amitabh Bachchan He maybe one of the biggest superstars of all-time in Bollywood, yet 71-year-old Amitabh Bachchan has the same set of anxieties like any other man. The iconic actor who was recently in the Capital at NDTV @ 25 to receive an award, shared some of his innermost thoughts during an exclusive chat with us.
You are the epitome of confidence and success. What’s your greatest fear?
I don’t agree that I have a lot of confidence. I think in any profession what you fear most is not being able to perform, about not being able to meet new challenges. The fear of non-acceptance, particularly if in creative art. What happens if the audiences do not like you any more!
Even YOU have that fear?
Oh yes, everyday! And therefore there’s always that effort to keep improving, to keep doing something that the audiences will appreciate.
How do you feel when women, from age 16 to 60, show so much love for you on your TV show?
I don’t know... I feel embarrassed! (laughs)
But you handle it with so much ease...
No... I think that I would imagine that’s part of your duty and your job if you are anchoring a show. It’s like inviting somebody to your home...like how you would be expected to be then...I approach it that way.
You have a tough schedule and yet at the end of the day we always get to see that tweet from you or something in your blog. Where do you get all that energy from to do so many things?
(Laughs) You don’t need energy to do all that. It’s (blog) something that’s become quite regular now (pauses)...I am now on day two thousand and sixtyyyyy....seven, without a break...
Is it true that you have been approached for the Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp co-production Shantaram?
Ya, Warner Brothers have sent me a script. Let’s see what happens. It was originally given to me a couple of years ago when Mira Nair was directing it. But then she said it’s not happening...and now again very recently they’ve (Warner Brothers) sent the script again.
